Vijayawada is a busy, rapidly growing city and an important port at the head of the delta of the mighty Krishna River. It s bustling, but it s also intersected by canals, lined with ghats and ringed by fields of rice and palm. The surrounding area is intensely sawgrass expressway lush and green.
Next door are the Birla Planetarium & Science sawgrass expressway Museum (museum/planetarium 20/35; hmuseum 10.30am-8pm, to 3pm Fri, planetarium shows 11.30am, 4pm & 6pm) and the worthwhile Birla Modern sawgrass expressway Art Gallery (admission 10; h10.30am-6pm).
